What is the New Teacher Mentoring Project?

Sooke School District (62) is pleased to be entering their second year of the Teacher Mentoring Project. This project is a province wide initiative and includes a partnership among the B.C. Teachers’ Federation, the BC Schools Superintendents Association, and the University of BC. This year Laura Lancaster will be reuniting many of us for our second year in the SD 62 mentoring initiative. The goal for this year will be for Sooke teachers who are new to their current assignment or new to teaching will have the opportunity to work with one another and colleague mentors to develop reciprocal mentoring relationships as part of a continuum of teacher learning.

Audience:

Mentors: Experienced Sooke SD teachers (5 or more years) who value welcoming and supporting new teacher-colleagues to the profession/in a new teaching assignment.

Mentees: Sooke SD teachers new teaching or new to their current teaching assignment.

Purpose:

This project seeks to provide a coherent, research-based, and sustainable system of support for teachers new to their teaching assignment and/or the profession.
